Program scope and applications
The VeChain Foundation has launched the VeFounder program, transferring control of several live applications to external development teams. This initiative focuses on real-world use cases in sustainability, nutrition, and food waste—including apps like TrashDash, BiteGram, and Bye Bye Bites—and aligns with the network’s broader push toward decentralization and regulatory compliance.
VeFounder enables developers to take over fully operational dApps, reducing the typical barriers to entry and offering immediate user bases. The program ties into VeBetterDAO, which rewards eco-friendly user behavior, marking a shift toward community-led growth and practical impact.
Founded by Sunny Lu in 2015, VeChain is positioning itself as an enabler of tangible, user-ready applications rather than purely speculative projects. This move reflects a deliberate strategy to combine real-world utility with compliant, scalable blockchain infrastructure.
Regulatory and Technical Context
The launch follows VeChain’s compliance with the European MiCA regulation (Markets in Crypto-Assets) in early 2025 and precedes the upcoming Hayabusa upgrade in December 2025. Hayabusa will introduce changes to VeThor Token (VTHO) distribution, sending rewards only to stakers—a move designed to encourage long-term network participation and liquidity retention.
These developments create a favorable environment for projects with real-world applicability, offering clearer regulatory pathways and more sustainable tokenomics.
Shifting control to external teams has meaningful implications:
-
Developers gain access to established applications with existing users, lowering adoption risk.
-
MiCA compliance simplifies market access in Europe but requires robust KYC/AML and governance controls.
-
The Hayabusa upgrade may alter liquidity dynamics and staking incentives, rewarding long-term holders.
-
A focus on real-world assets (RWAs) and sustainability reinforces VeChain’s appeal to impact-oriented builders and users.
VeFounder represents a strategic step toward broader decentralization by handing over operational control of live apps. As VeChain continues to align with regulatory standards and technical upgrades like Hayabusa, the focus now turns to how these changes will affect staking behavior, governance, and real-world adoption.
