Twitter Integrates BTC and ETH Price Indexes into its Search Function

Twitter has introduced a new cryptocurrency feature that allows users to look up the price of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) by typing their names or tickers into the search bar.

The new feature was announced in a Twitter thread by Twitter Business as an improved version of the #Cashtags. The new feature implies that users can now see clickable links and the prices of BTC and ETH when they add the dollar sign in front of the cryptocurrency (for example, $ETH).

In addition to the foregoing, the Twitter search can provide links and prices for some stocks and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). Users can also search for symbols without having to click a link within a Tweet. It was highlighted that users will still get correct information about what they want with or without adding the dollar sign (for example QQQ or $QQQ).

It appears that BTC and ETH are the only major crypto that has been integrated into the Twitter search. Twitter Business has, however, said there are plans already in place to expand search to include other crypto and symbols.

While the new feature seems to be a welcoming idea for the online community, Jon Farjo, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder of LunarCrush commented on Twitter about the new feature. He stated that;

“Twitter needs to implement a selection tool as well as a standard for specific assets because there are so many duplicate symbols across both stocks and cryptocurrencies that need to be resolved.

Beyond BTC Price Index: Elon Musk is Changing the Twitter Narrative

The addition of the crypto search function to Twitter is one of many innovations that the CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk is pleased with since resuming office. Elon Musk has been a strong supporter of Dogecoin (DOGE) and a major contributor to the blockchain industry as a whole.

Earlier in the month, Elon Musk was rumored to be creating a Twitter Coin which will be used for making payments and tipping on the Twitter platform. There hasn’t been much information released about this, but the rumor is based on Musk’s Twitter statements that he is still interested in integrating cryptocurrency into the Twitter platform.

Since the takeover in October, Musk has overseen several changes to Twitter, most notably those relating to censorship policy. Another major change being discussed is that Twitter users will soon be required to pay an $8 fee to be verified.
